I went to a mentor's meeting at The Bank Street Centre last Friday the 20th of September. Yorkshire Writing are setting up an exciting new service offering mentoring and so we were there to talk about the project and do some coaching on each other. I was struck by the fact that writers should make very good coaches as one of the essentials for coaching or mentoring is to listen to what particular words are being used. For example if a coachee keeps saying, should, instead of, could, that can be very significant. Are they thinking they ought to be doing something, rather than actually wanting to.
